Euro 2024 Türkiye Grubu: Turkey Drawn into Group F with Portugal, Czechia, and Play-off Winner
The Euro 2024 group stage draw took place at the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall in Hamburg, Germany, the host nation for the tournament. Turkey was drawn from Pot 2 into Group F, alongside Portugal, Czechia, and the winner of Play-off Path C.

Turkey, entering the draw from Pot 2, finds itself in Group F. This group sets the stage for compelling matches against football powerhouse Portugal, a strong Czech Republic team, and an undetermined opponent from Play-off Path C. The play-off path includes Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, and Luxembourg, adding an element of uncertainty to Turkey’s final group competitor.
While 21 teams were directly entered into the draw, the final three spots will be decided through the Euro 2024 play-offs, scheduled for March 21-26. These play-off matches will determine the last participants and complete the Euro 2024 lineup.
Euro 2024 is set to take place from June 14th to July 14th, 2024.
In Euro 2024, 24 teams are divided into six groups of four. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16. From the Round of 16 onwards, the tournament transitions to a single-elimination format, heightening the stakes for each match.

Ten vibrant German cities will host Euro 2024 matches, showcasing the country’s football passion and infrastructure. The host cities include Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund, Leipzig, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart, and Düsseldorf. The iconic Allianz Arena in Munich will host the opening match, while the final showdown will take place at the historic Olympiastadion in Berlin.

The group stage matches will conclude on June 26th, with the Round of 16 commencing on June 29th. Quarter-finals are scheduled for July 5th, followed by the semi-finals on July 9th. The Euro 2024 champion will be crowned at the final match in Berlin’s Olympiastadion on July 14th.

Following this opening match, Turkey will face Portugal in Dortmund on Saturday, June 22nd, and conclude their group stage matches against Czechia in Hamburg on Wednesday, June 26th.

Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, Osman Aşkın Bak, shared his optimism on social media regarding the draw for the national team in Euro 2024 Group F. He stated, “I wholeheartedly believe in ‘Our Boys’ and wish them success.”
Turkish National Football Team Coach Vincenzo Montella commented on Group F, acknowledging the challenge ahead. “Every match in a major tournament is tough,” Montella stated after the draw. He emphasized the team’s focus would now be on detailed analysis of their opponents. When asked about Turkey’s chances against Portugal, Montella optimistically replied in Turkish, “İnşallah, kazanan kim olursa,” meaning “God willing, whoever wins.”
Turkish Football Federation President Mehmet Büyükekşi expressed his ambition for Turkey to achieve new milestones at Euro 2024. “We aim to achieve firsts again,” Büyükekşi said, referencing past successes. He highlighted the potential advantage of playing in Germany with a large Turkish diaspora, anticipating strong fan support. “We ask for the prayers of all our citizens and we want to celebrate together,” he concluded, emphasizing unity and national pride.
Hamit Altıntop, TFF Board Member responsible for the National Team, described the draw as “good,” recognizing Portugal as the group favorite but seeing the Play-off C path as an advantage for Turkey. “Our goal is clear: to advance from the group,” Altıntop stated. He highlighted the advantage of playing two matches in Dortmund and emphasized the need for thorough preparation and maintaining focus. While acknowledging the need for some luck in football, Altıntop’s primary goal is for Turkey to progress to the Round of 16.
