29 Euro Ne Kadar: Germany’s Discount Public Transport Ticket for Students
Starting this winter semester, students in Germany can take advantage of an incredibly affordable public transportation option: the 29-euro ticket. This initiative significantly reduces the cost of travel, making it easier and more economical for students to navigate both within Munich and across the entire country. For just 29 euros per month, students gain access to the extensive MVV public transportation network in Munich, as well as regional transport services throughout Germany, mirroring the benefits of the regular Deutschlandticket.
29 Euro Ne Kadar: Students in Germany can access affordable public transport with the 29 euro ticket, seen here at a Munich subway station.
The 29-euro ticket is initially being offered by MVG (Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft), Munich’s public transport operator, at the beginning of the winter semester. Pre-orders for the ticket opened on August 10, 2023, and it will be valid starting from October 1, 2023, coinciding with the semester start. Students are encouraged to pre-order their tickets as early as possible to ensure they receive them in time for the semester commencement, as the eligibility verification process may take some time.
To purchase the 29-euro ticket online, students need to provide proof of their student status by uploading their registration certificate for the winter semester 2023/24. This certificate, confirming enrollment, can be easily generated through the university’s online portal. Once obtained, the certificate is required to complete the online ticket order process on the MVG website. This streamlined digital process simplifies access to affordable transportation for students.
Similar to the standard Deutschlandticket, the 29-euro student ticket is available in two formats: as a mobile ticket accessible via the MVG app on smartphones, and as a physical chip card. Due to potential limitations in chip card availability and possible delivery delays, opting for the mobile ticket is highly recommended for immediate access and convenience. It’s important to note that existing MVV chip cards from previous subscriptions cannot be reused for this new 29-euro ticket.
Students who are already using the regular Deutschlandticket and wish to switch to the discounted 29-euro student version must actively cancel their current subscription. The transition to the 29-euro ticket is not automatic. To ensure a smooth switch, it’s crucial to adhere to the cancellation deadlines. The Deutschlandticket requires cancellation by the 10th of the preceding month. Therefore, for students aiming to cancel their Deutschlandticket by September 30, 2023, the cancellation must be submitted by September 10, 2023, to their current provider.
