Franchesca Thepenier brings a world of experience and passion to Bin 54, enriching the dining experience with her exceptional sommelier skills. With a family deeply rooted in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry, Franchesca’s path was almost destined. Her mother excelled in Front of House management, while her father’s culinary journey included opening the first Hard Rock Café in the United States in 1983 and serving as Executive Chef for Disney resorts, notably launching Euro Disney. This international exposure instilled in her a global perspective on gastronomy, perfectly aligning with the diverse and sophisticated ambiance of Bin 54.

Franchesca’s own journey in the restaurant world began in her early teens, quickly revealing a natural talent. She honed her skills in fine dining establishments in New York before a pivotal role at ConVino, a brasserie and wine bar, while attending Smith College. Initially a server, and at just 20 years old unable to fully appreciate wine through tasting, she immersed herself in wine theory. This dedication led to her rapid ascent to Beverage Director within six months.

Once she could fully engage her palate, Franchesca pursued her Sommelier certification with fervor, achieving her 2nd Level Sommelier Certification in 2017 at the young age of 22. Driven to deepen her understanding of wine production, she ventured to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. In Dundee, amidst the vineyards, she discovered a profound connection to winemaking, solidifying her commitment to a career centered around wine.

Returning to the East Coast, Franchesca now shares her approachable enthusiasm for wine at Bin 54 in Carrboro. She expertly guides guests through the restaurant’s extensive wine list, helping them discover the ideal pairing to complement their meal. Her expertise, combined with her warm and engaging demeanor, makes selecting the perfect wine an integral and delightful part of the Bin 54 experience, promising a memorable “54 Bin Euro” worthy evening for every diner.
